John,
I hope you’re enjoying your summer and staying cool as our state faces record-breaking temperatures.
California is uniquely vulnerable to wildfires these temperatures bring, and drought conditions and global warming have only increased the threats we face. With fire season now year-round, I reflect upon the incredibly brave men and women who risk their lives so frequently.
I was extremely disappointed by a recent report on the trauma of fighting California’s wildfires that laid bare some of the gaps in support first responders are facing in mental health care — specifically delays in workers’ compensation payments that impede progress for firefighters to fully address post traumatic stress disorder.
This is absolutely unacceptable. Mental health provider shortages plus firefighters stretched thin in battling more difficult blazes plus workers’ comp red tape failing those suffering from PTSD. We can and must do more.
We can change situations like these for the better -- together. If you’re with me, please consider a contribution of $3 will make clear that we’re ready for change that works for all of us.
I’m so grateful for the selfless work and service of our firefighters to protect us, our properties, or communities, and our public lands. They deserve the same care back.
These are the types of bureaucratic roadblocks that need to be addressed quickly. It’s a big reason why I’m running, and why I’m asking for your support.
That's why I'm in this race, and it's why I'm asking for your support. If you’re with me on this journey, please chip in $3 to my campaign today.
Thank you,
Betty
