John,
Today, in spite of the demands sent by more than 7,000 Ocean Activists, Ofwat has signed off on us all swimming and surfing in sewage pollution beyond 2030 😡😡😡
So, what just happened?
In short, water companies laid out their spending and investment plans for the next five years and today was the chance for Ofwat (the water industry regulator for England and Wales) to mark their homework.
You can get the full lowdown in our blog [[link removed]], but here's what Giles, our chief exec, had to say about it:
"The general election campaign made clear that the public is fed up with those in power turning a blind eye to the sewage scandal. Today's announcement does nothing to change that.
"The new Labour government must ensure this failure is the last whimper of a broken system and immediately call a public inquiry."
This. Is. Not. Over. These are just Ofwat's draft 'determinations', with the final spending plans not signed off until the end of the year. And next week we have a chance to have our say...
John, will you join us in speaking directly to Ofwat at their " Your Water, Your Say [[link removed]]" online events? Hosted by Ofwat to get customers' views on their draft decisions, it's an opportunity to keep the pressure on.
Register to join today, and in the coming days we'll be in touch again with tips on the kinds of questions you can ask.👇
