George Clooney apparently hit a raw nerve with convicted felon and MAGA cult leader Donald Trump when he added his voice to ongoing calls for President Biden to drop out of the race for the good of the country. Trump, who has been uncharacteristically sidelined in the daily news headlines by the recent upheaval in the Democratic Party, is clearly none-too-pleased that Clooney, a Democratic mega-donor with a huge audience and very large platform, has joined the conversation. "So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act," the 78-year-old Republican presidential nominee fumed on his silly social network platform. Not sure why Clooney isn't a "real" movie actor in Donald's eyes or why billions of dollars in box office receipts don't seem to matter, but that's beside the point. Whether he's suffering from headline withdrawal or just plain scared to face a younger Democrat in the general election, Trump clearly doesn't want thoughtful Democrats weighing in on what's best for the country or the party. President Joe Biden’s campaign has already suffered a major slowdown in donations and officials are bracing for a seismic fundraising hit, with the fallout from a debate nearly two weeks ago taking a sizable toll on operations, according to four sources close to the re-election effort. "It’s already disastrous," one of the sources close to Biden’s re-election said of fundraising. "The money has absolutely shut off," another source close to the re-election said. We have 117 days to figure this out, folks. The clock is most definitely ticking.

Arkansas' Republican secretary of state rejects abortion-rights ballot initiative
Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurston, a Republican, rejected an effort to place a constitutional amendment to enshrine abortion rights on the November ballot, despite organizers providing signatures from more than 100,000 registered voters — more than the approximately 90,700 it needed before the deadline that day — to move forward with getting its proposal on the general election ballot. Thurston claimed organizers failed to submit some required paperwork that apparently affected 14,143 signatures, leaving the group just short of the required amount. How convenient. Rebecca Bobrow, a spokesperson for Arkansans for Limited Government, confirmed that the group had received the letter and was evaluating what to do next.

Israel tells "everyone in Gaza City" to leave
Despite the utter impracticality of such an order, the Israeli military has told ALL residents of decimated Gaza City to evacuate south to the central Gaza Strip, amid intensified operations in the north. Leaflets dropped by IDF aircraft have instructed "everyone in Gaza City" to leave what is described as a "dangerous combat zone" via designated safe routes — marked as two roads that lead to shelters in Deir al-Balah and al-Zawaida. The UN has said it is deeply concerned about evacuation orders being given. It is the second time since the war began that Gaza City as a whole has been ordered to evacuate. Hamas has said Israel’s renewed activity in the city is threatening to derail negotiations over a potential ceasefire and hostage release deal, which resumed on Wednesday in Qatar. The war in Gaza, now in its 10th month, has claimed the lives of nearly 40,000 Palestinians and displaced more than two million civilians with no end in sight.

Peter Welch, a veteran member of Congress from Vermont, became the first Democratic senator to publicly call on Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race in the wake of his deeply troubling debate performance and growing concerns about his mental acuity. "We cannot unsee President Biden’s disastrous debate performance. We cannot ignore or dismiss the valid questions raised since that night," Welch, wrote in a Washington Post op-ed on Wednesday. "For the good of the country, I'm calling on President Biden to withdraw from the race."

The Maryland Democrat is calling on congressional leadership to condemn Ivan Raiklin, a former government employee-turned-Donald Trump zealot who has collected the names of 350 people he wants to see arrested or swatted should the convicted felon and MAGA cult leader claw his way back into the White House. Raiklin, a former Defense Intelligence Agency employee, has compiled a "Deep State target list" and has dubbed himself Trump’s future "secretary of retribution." Seriously. Trump and his cronies aren't even trying to hide the hellish, democracy-busting plans they have in store for the American people should they take the White House, folks. Congratulations to anyone who had "gay furry hackers" engaging in an explicit text feud with a very pious Heritage Foundation executive on their 2024 Batshit Crazy Bingo card. After Siegedsec, a collective of self-proclaimed “gay furry hackers” reportedly hacked the organization behind Trump's Project 2025 plan to, well, basically destroy America, Mike Howell, an executive director at the Heritage Foundation — the organization full of ex-Trump staffers who concocted the 900-page, radical right-wing, wet-dream manifesto — sent apoplectic messages to the group, including this gem: "Are you aware that you won't be able to wear a furry tiger costume when you're getting pounded in the ass in the federal prison I put you in next year?” But wait, there's more! When threatened by the hackers to be outed for his less than wholesome language, Howell doubled down: "Please share widely. I hope the word spreads as fast as the STDs do in your degenerate furry community." Let's hear it for those Republican FaMiLy VaLuEs!

Joe Manchin joins with Senate Republicans to slip disgusting anti-trans laws into must-pass defense spending bill
In terribly unsurprising and downright depressing news, newly "independent" Sen. Joe Manchin joined forces with his Republican colleagues to advance the Senate's version of the must-pass annual defense policy bill with behind-closed-doors amendments added to restrict access to transgender care for members of the military and their families. The inclusion of said amendments in the Senate's version of the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, increases the odds that restrictions on gender-affirmation care for transgender troops and family members become law after the House predictably filled its version of the bill with similar efforts to curtail services for LGBTQ+ troops. Transgender troops have faced whiplashing policies for years amid GOP efforts to bar them from serving openly or, short of that, prohibit the Pentagon from covering their healthcare. After the Obama administration allowed transgender troops to serve openly in 2016, Donald Trump reinstated the ban on open transgender service in 2017, only to see the ban repealed by President Biden in 2021. For this, and so many other reasons, the stakes could not be higher in 2024.
