Women Winning’s Political Leaders of Tomorrow (PLOT) Program is back for summer 2024, and our participants are helping lead the way for political power and gender equity in governance in Minnesota!

The Political Leaders of Tomorrow is designed to participants acquire the tools and connections needed to be a political leader in Minnesota. PLOT serves as an entry point for energized, pro-choice Minnesotans who are interested in a career in politics, especially those who have not yet volunteered or worked on a campaign. PLOT invests in the next generation of political strategists, volunteers, and candidates in Minnesota through education and training. The Women Winning team supports and develops PLOT participants throughout the program by providing:

- In-depth training in campaign communication, fundraising, fieldwork, and strategy

- Professional development and networking opportunities

- Personalized check-ins and problem-solving coaching

This summer, our participants are volunteering for some of the most competitive Women Winning endorsed campaigns across the state, from Duluth to Mankato! 

In addition to gaining new skills and connections, our participants are also stipended for their training time, helping open the door for more people to be able to participate. We envision an election year where every Women Winning candidate is connected with a PLOT participant to help volunteer on their campaign, but for now, the demand for the program outweighs the resources available.

Tina Smith joins MSNBC’s Ali Velshi to discuss how Democrats are seeking to repeal an 1873 law that Republicans could use to ban the mailing of abortion pills and her concern that a future Trump administration “led by MAGA extremists” could take away the rights of those in blue states as well.

At the urging of former President Donald Trump and his allies, the Republican Party is set to abandon a decades long push for a federal abortion ban and soften its stance on same-sex marriage in its platform, according to changes made in a draft policy platform passed Monday morning ahead of next week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. 

The new draft party platform, which still must get approval from the full Republican National Committee, came after the Trump campaign made a quiet push to keep those seen as too socially conservative off the platform committee out of concern that they would make a vocal push for things like a federal abortion ban, which has consistently been unpopular in public polling and would alienate potential swing voters.

Two years since Roe v. Wade was overturned and four months away from a presidential election, one of the biggest threats to abortion rights is a federal administration willing to enforce and reinterpret the dormant Comstock Act to criminalize the mailing of abortion-related drugs, medical equipment and information. But abortion providers and advocates say that even without Comstock, monitoring and policing of pregnant women and information is already here, thanks to activists whose proposed city ordinances allow residents to sue anyone suspected of helping someone get an abortion.  

“I have a whole lot of friends that spend time on the sidewalks of abortion facilities throughout America,” Dickson said. “And I’ve told these friends, if you ever meet someone from Abilene, Texas, that is seeking out an abortion in New Mexico, use the sanctuary city ordinance as a deterrent as much as you can.”
