Why These Races Matter
The recent legislative session in Michigan saw monumental progress on key issues, especially in clean energy and environmental reforms. Clean energy legislation was passed, setting a 100% clean energy standard by 2040 and establishing policies for energy efficiency and environmental justice. They also eliminated “polluter panels” and took significant steps to protect children from lead poisoning.
In addition to this major progress on climate policy, they passed critical legislation on other key issues, from increasing protections for workers across the state, to ensuring access to healthcare, and protecting LGBTQ+ communities from discrimination.
But here’s the deal: The majorities in both chambers are razor-thin — just two seats in each — which puts climate progress at risk. Extreme Republicans and even some Democrats are campaigning to undo many of these accomplishments. Our endorsed candidates are the champions we need to keep Michigan leading the way on climate progress.
Investing in these races will have ripple effects beyond the state. The climate crisis doesn’t respect state lines; the policies Michigan enacts will impact your air, water, and environment, regardless of where you live.
Meet Our Climate Champions
Jenn Hill: Jenn is running for re-election to the Michigan House of Representatives to represent District 109. She is a proven leader for our environment and is leading Michigan toward a clean energy future. She isn’t afraid to hold corporate polluters accountable and will always put her constituents first. Her legislative accomplishments, including the state’s historic clean energy package, underscore her commitment to a clean, green future.
Donavan McKinney: Donavan is running for re-election to the Michigan House of Representatives to represent District 11. In his first term, he spearheaded several pieces of historic environmental legislation, including major clean energy reforms. Donavan is laser-focused on fighting to rein in corporate influence on campaigns, make polluters pay, expand community solar power, and much more.
Dylan Wegela: Dylan is running for re-election to the Michigan House of Representatives to represent the new District 26. He has been a staunch advocate for climate action and clean energy. He fought to pass Michigan’s historic clean energy package and has been an outspoken opponent of dangerous fossil fuel infrastructure like Line 5. Dylan is working to level the playing field and prohibit investor-owned utilities from using dark money to influence elections.
Jaime Churches: Jaime is running for re-election to the Michigan House of Representatives to represent District 27. She has a proven record of championing clean energy reforms and is a fierce advocate who has been working to protect Michiganders’ waterways from toxic pollution. Jaime is 100% committed to holding corporate polluters accountable and making them pay for the mess they’ve made.
