My name is Jena Griswold, and I am the Secretary of State of Colorado. Today, I wanted to share a little bit about what Emerge meant to me, but first, will you contribute $25 or more to show your support to recruit and train more Democratic women in 2024 and beyond?

I grew up in a cabin in rural Colorado on food stamps, and went on to become the youngest Secretary of State in the country. How? In a word, Emerge.

At the age of 32, I decided to run for statewide office, never having run for office before. It was a long shot. I was up against a statewide Republican incumbent in Colorado. And folks like me don’t run for office, much less run for Secretary of State in Colorado – a seat Democrats hadn’t won in 60 years.

But I’ll tell you this – Emerge was there for me. My Emerge sisters were the ones who showed up and encouraged me when everybody thought it was an impossible task. Emerge’s training provided me with the crucial strategy and support to make the impossible race become possible in 2018.

When I was first elected Colorado Secretary of State, I became the youngest Secretary of State in the country. So when a woman asks me what is the first step they should take to run for office, I always tell them about Emerge.

Let me tell you the truth, John: This is the most consequential election in our lifetime, and I need more Democratic women on the frontline to fight back against Donald Trump and his extremists.
