InSight Crime is proud to present a groundbreaking new collaboration with Defiende Venezuela

#OperationTrueno

Dear Reader,

InSight Crime is proud to present a groundbreaking new collaboration with Defiende Venezuela that viscerally depicts human rights abuses committed by the Venezuelan authorities in a series of illustrated graphic stories.

When Terror Swept Through Guárico, Venezuela ([link removed]) is based on victim testimonies collected by Defiende Venezuela human rights defenders during and after Operation Trueno, a security deployment that saw hundreds of police and military officials descend on Altagracia de Orituco in the northern state of Guárico in 2022.

While Operation Trueno’s stated target was the Tren del Llano gang, security forces abused, tortured, robbed, extorted, and falsely imprisoned ordinary families. The harrowing stories of three of those families as well as the story of the operation itself have been brought to life through the visual storytelling of InSight Crime illustrators.

In addition, the investigation includes Defiende Venezuela’s in-depth human rights report on the operation, detailing the patterns of abuses and rights violations that emerge from the 34 cases documented.

We invite you to explore the full series, available on our website ([link removed]) .
