Governor Gordon and Energy Experts Discuss the Future of Wyoming’s Core Industries on the Morning Gather podcast

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Governor Mark Gordon dives into the future of Wyoming’s core industries in the latest episode of his podcast, “The Morning Gather”. The Governor highlights not only the complex challenges facing the coal, oil and natural gas industries in Wyoming, but how the state can help feed the nation’s growing power demands through innovation.

Joining the Governor on the newest episode are Wendy Hutchinson, a veteran of the coal industry and Chairwoman of the Wyoming Energy Authority’s Board of Directors; Shelley Shelby, Chair of the Petroleum Association of Wyoming’s Management Committee; and Bill Miller, President and CEO of Power Company of Wyoming.

The Governor and his guests discuss why energy companies choose to work in Wyoming and how the U.S. electric load could double by 2045. They also talk about the impacts of federal and state regulatory actions on Wyoming’s energy economy, the challenges of permitting energy projects and how oil and gas lease sales are affected by federal agency decisions.

“If we can’t get oil and gas done, if we have an Administration that says there’s plenty of coal leasing already done, we’ve got the intermittency of renewables coming on and we know the grid is not prepared for it, and we also understand that electric demand is going to go up… where are we going to be in 10-15 years?” the Governor asks.

“Well, I think we’re going to be in big trouble,” Miller responded.

The newest Morning Gather episode may be streamed on Spotify. You can find a link to all episodes of The Morning Gather on the Podcasts page of the Governor’s website.
