In the last year alone, the Supreme Court has granted Donald Trump sweeping immunity from prosecution, empowered dark money and special interest organizations to challenge agency regulations designed to safeguard our environment and protect consumers, and overturned decades of legal precedent by gutting constitutional protections for abortion rights.

And to make matters worse, sitting Supreme Court justices have been embroiled in bombshell ethics scandals — from Justice Sam Alito flying a white Christian nationalist flag outside his New Jersey beach home to Justice Clarence Thomas conveniently omitting luxurious private jet trips and private school tuition payments paid for by GOP megadonors from his financial disclosures.

The Supreme Court is supposed to be a key plank in our system of checks and balances — an apolitical, impartial body that interprets our Constitution and sits apart from the legislative and executive branches. But these days, it’s looking more and more like a hotbed of MAGA extremism. That needs to change.

Thankfully, Mikie and House Democrats are taking action. Earlier this year, Mikie introduced the Stop Judge Shopping Act to stop far-right activists from hand-picking partisan judges to try their cases — and it’s why she’s a proud co-sponsor of the Supreme Court Ethics and Investigations Act, which would establish robust oversight mechanisms at the Court.
