Whole Foods continues to sell meat from birds bred to suffer, known to some as Frankenchickens. Bred to grow unnaturally large shockingly fast, the birds are doomed to a life of pure agony.

Whole Foods, a grocery chain with more than 500 locations across North America, promised to ban this horrific breeding practice by 2024. But the company has yet to deliver on its promise.

Although very large, these birds are mere juveniles when they are slaughtered. Their immature frames struggle to support their rapidly ballooning bodies, so the birds often collapse. Some can't even walk to reach food or water.

Whole Foods has a public plan for fulfilling most of its chicken welfare commitment—but not the most crucial part: ending the use of Frankenchickens. Why is Whole Foods failing to be transparent about the worst cruelty in its supply chain?

Birds just weeks old shouldn't suffer organ failure and heart attacks. But Frankenchickens often do. Whole Foods claims to have the strongest animal welfare standards in the industry.

John, we won't stand for the company's humanewashing. Whole Foods must publish a time-bound plan for banning the use of Frankenchickens.
