Staying in touch with Kansans however I can is incredibly important to me. Hi John.

I hope you had a great Fourth of July! It’s an incredible honor to serve you in the U.S. House of Representatives.

It was great to meet with folks throughout the Kansas Third District around the Fourth of July. For example, last week I was glad to meet with the folks at Spectral Systems Integration, an Olathe business that specializes spectral imaging and data analysis.

Today, I wanted to share a quick new update with resources and services for you, and more on how I’m working for your family:

Protecting Kansas Families and Combatting Fentanyl

I’m pleased to share that I helped secure a new $15.9 million federal grant for our region’s law enforcement. These new resources will help Kansas law enforcement seize illicit drugs like fentanyl, reduce violent crime associated with drug trafficking, and improve data collection — all to keep Kansans safe.

I recently met with the Kansas Highway Patrol and personnel at the Overland Park Police Department for an update on the issues our local law enforcement is facing. I also heard more about how they can use these new federal resources to protect our communities.

In our state and around the country, the fentanyl crisis has become a public health emergency. I helped bring these new resources home to Kansas to help local law enforcement get these illicit drugs off our streets and keep families safe and healthy.

The new law enforcement funding is being made available through the Midwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA). HIDTA is a broad partnership between local, state, and federal law enforcement to protect our communities from illicit drugs like fentanyl. I’ve worked with both parties to support them in this important work and to address the fentanyl crisis.

Lowering Childcare Costs

I recently introduced the bipartisan Affordable Childcare Act with my Republican colleague Rep. Marcus Molinaro from New York. Our bipartisan bill doubles child care tax cuts for hardworking families. This is about putting money right back in the pockets of middle class Kansans.

I’m proud to join Representative Molinaro in introducing this bipartisan bill to ensure hardworking families in Kansas and across the country can more easily afford childcare.

Childcare is crucial for setting children up for success. But the high costs force many families to go without it, leading parents to work fewer days or go into debt.

I was raised by a single mom and understand families need relief. Higher prices for groceries, gas, and other essentials certainly isn’t helping either. That’s why I’m focused on concrete and bipartisan solutions to make life more affordable.

My job is to serve every person and corner of our community, regardless of party. Whether we agree on each issue or not is beside the point. Everyone deserves a government that works for them – not just special interests, big corporations, or the extremes of either party.

If you have any questions or would like to share your views, please feel free to contact me.

My warmest regards,
