Our hearts go out to all Mainers across the state affected by the coronavirus pandemic. During this critical moment, our work is more important than ever, especially to ensure Maine people have accessible elections, clean air to breathe, safe water to drink, and natural areas to explore. If you are able, we're asking for your support today [[link removed]] , and every gift will be triple-matched by some of our closest supporters.
John,
Here at Maine Conservation Voters, we are heartened to see the generosity and mutual aid from communities across the state, country, and globe during this pandemic.
COVID-19 is an alarming and unique crisis. It has shone a light on the enormous challenges within our infrastructure, the gaping holes in our social safety nets, the fragility of our voting systems, and the vast and growing disparity in income. It is clear that our work is more important than ever before.
Our mission has always been to ensure that all Mainers have access to clean air to breathe, safe water to drink, and natural areas to explore, and to ensure that we're holding our government accountable, with a deep focus on tackling climate change and ensuring an accessible democracy.
Addressing the climate crisis and winning at the ballot box is work that cannot stop or even take a short pause, especially now.
That's why some of our closest supporters have stepped forward to triple-match all donations before April 26th.
If you are able, will you chip in whatever you can today to help our climate and election work? Your donation will be automatically tripled. [[link removed]]
Over the coming weeks, our top priorities will be two-fold:
First , we are continuing to advocate for the strongest possible Maine Climate Action Plan to slow the effects of the climate crisis in our state. The climate crisis is not slowing down and neither are MCV’s efforts to combat it.
Second , we are fighting for changes to our voting systems that ensure all eligible Mainers will be able to safely participate in the 2020 elections. This is critical now that in-person voting has become more challenging than ever before.
In response to COVID-19, we are redeploying staff and resources to ensure people are still able to participate in elections. The new reality of social distancing and stay-at-home orders reveals the fragility of our voting systems. Maine people need more accessible and resilient voter registration and ballot access. Even as the pandemic threatens the health and safety of Maine communities, we cannot allow it to threaten our democracy.
If you can, please chip in whatever you can afford before the April 26 deadline, and the impact of your gift will be tripled by some of our closest supporters. Click here to make a secure contribution. [[link removed]]
With your support, Maine Conservation Voters has always advocated for sound environmental policy, held our decision-makers accountable, and elected pro-environment, pro-science candidates to offices up and down the ballot. Rest assured, we will not stop.
With gratitude,
Maureen Drouin, Executive Director
