In just a moment, we are going to ask you to donate directly to the Democratic National Committee before the Republican convention begins and our FEC deadline ends. Please give us a chance to explain why this request is so important.

Here is the truth:

Most years, the FEC fundraising deadlines we write about happen once every three months. Those are the big, official deadlines. And when they end, we are legally required to report what we've raised for everyone to see.

But during the homestretch of presidential campaign years, these official FEC deadlines happen every month -- which means we have another one coming up fast.

And this one is especially important. It will be the first full report we file after the presidential debate, Trump's VP announcement, and the Republican convention.

Everyone in the press will be watching what we file and what Republicans file -- and the difference will be talked about by the press for days.

So we're hoping for a big report. And at the same time, we also need to reach our very real fundraising goals for the month. And we need you for both.
