Self-described MAGA Republican Hung Cao, who recently earned his party’s nomination for U.S. Senate in Virginia, announced he would not debate Tim Kaine at the Virginia Bar Association debate on July 20. 

Tim Kaine has participated in the VBA debate in both his gubernatorial and Senate campaigns and would be proud to do so again during his re-election campaign. So why won’t Hung Cao take questions and make his case to the people of Virginia? 

The answer: He’s scared. He knows he can’t defend his far-right positions — like banning abortion without exceptions, repealing the Affordable Care Act, releasing and compensating convicted January 6th insurrectionists and putting Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block. 

With Cao skipping out on debating Tim, voters only hear his positions in TV ads, where he can lie with the help of the millions of dollars coming in from out-of-state donors and national Republicans who want to unseat Tim Kaine at any cost. 

We can’t let that happen.
