Putin and Modi Deepen Ties

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday, seeking to deepen the relationship between the two nuclear powers at a time when NATO leaders gathered in Washington and Russia launched deadly missile attacks in Ukraine that hit a children’s hospital, as the AP reports.

U.S., Allies Issue Rare Warning on Chinese Hacking Group

The U.S., Australia, and six other allies warned that a Chinese state-sponsored hacking group poses a threat to their networks, in an unusual coordinated move by Western governments to call out a global hacking operation they say is directed by Beijing’s intelligence services, as the WSJ reports.

20-fold

Putin’s war effort in Ukraine has been funded in significant part by Indian purchases of Russian oil products, which have increased almost 20-fold since 2021.

Critical Quote

“In recent weeks, Iranian government actors have sought to opportunistically take advantage of ongoing protests regarding the war in Gaza, using a playbook we’ve seen other actors use over the years. We have observed actors tied to Iran’s government posing as activists online, seeking to encourage protests, and even providing financial support to protesters. I want to be clear that I know Americans who participate in protests are, in good faith, expressing their views on the conflict in Gaza–this intelligence does not indicate otherwise. Moreover, the freedom to express diverse views, when done peacefully, is essential to our democracy, but it is also important to warn of foreign actors who seek to exploit our debate for their own purposes.”

—Avril Haines, U.S. Director of National Intelligence

Smiles

One of my sons believes that country music superstar Zach Bryan is the voice of his generation. He compares him to Bob Dylan in terms of his songwriting power. I think Bryan is more Springsteenesque, but you get the drift of where I’m going with this.

Bryan is a Navy veteran who left the service in 2021. He now sells out stadiums nationwide. I’ve been interested in Bryan and warming to his music for some time. But with his new album, “The Great American Bar Scene,” issued just days ago, I’m now hooked. I think all it took was Bryan’s collaborations with Bruce Springsteen himself and John Mayer on this new record.

Watch this video of Bryan and Mayer recording the song “Better Days” and I think you will be hooked too.
