Friend,
Last month, as the coronavirus pandemic spun out of control and Congress
debated a $2 trillion bailout for corporations, readers from all over
the world flooded the Common Dreams website to get the latest news.
Then one of the worst possible things for an online news outlet
happened: our website crashed, unable to keep up with the massive surge
in traffic.
During this deadly pandemic, people need information from trusted news
sources like Common Dreams. So we're scrambling to increase our
bandwidth and server capacity to make sure our website never, ever goes
down again as people desperately turn to us for news.
Will you make a donation to help provide the increased bandwidth and
server capacity for the surge in readers during the COVID-19 crisis?

The work of journalism has never been more critical than it is right
now.
The president of the United States lies almost every time he opens his
mouth and is leading one of the worst government responses to the
pandemic in the world.
Mitch McConnell and Steve Mnuchin are shamelessly using the pandemic for
smash-and-grab looting of the public treasury, handing corporations a
$500 billion slush fund as small businesses and laid-off workers are
still waiting for the first unemployment checks to arrive.
And while medical workers can't get essential protective gear and
hospitals face a desperate shortage of ventilators and tests,
Republicans are focused on an ideological laundry list, from banning
abortion to disenfranchising voters.
Common Dreams is an independent news source that holds power to account
and works to make a better world possible—but we need an urgent influx
of funding to make sure our website can handle the massive spike in
traffic we're seeing in this crisis.
If we can hit our spring fundraising campaign goal of $60,000 by May 1,
that will give us the resources we need to pay for our expanded
bandwidth so we can keep providing you the news as long as this pandemic
lasts.
We know that some of you are facing difficult financial times and will
not be able to donate. But if you can afford to donate, we need you now
more than ever.
Donate now to help fund the increased bandwidth and server capacity we
need to meet reader demand during the COVID-19 pandemic.
