News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

I know how important it is for our children to receive nutritious meals throughout the year. In Connecticut, 1 in 6 children are food insecure and often go hungry in the summer when they don’t have access to free or reduced-cost lunch at school. That is why I have long been a supporter of the federal Summer Food Service Program to keep children fed during summer break.

Through this program, no-cost meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, are available to children under 18 at over 400 sites across the state this summer through late August. To find a location near you, visit CTSummerMeals.org, call 211, or text SUMMER MEALS to 914-342-7744.

In May, Forge City Works and Connecticut Foodshare opened the Grocery on Broad in Hartford’s Frog Hollow neighborhood, supported by $250,000 in federal funding I secured in Congress. At this store, residents will be able to purchase fresh produce, meats, and dairy through an innovative, ‘scaled-pricing’ model.

I will continue to support efforts to address food insecurity and increase funding for programs like SNAP to ensure families have access to nutritious foods at affordable prices! To follow what I’m working on both in Washington and in Connecticut, visit my Facebook page, follow me on Twitter, or follow me on Instagram.
