The RNC just released its platform, and it’s clear: When talking about Social Security and Medicare, Republicans have moved beyond the weasel words that have hidden their proposed cuts into all-out lies.
The RNC platform is adamant that they will fight cuts to Social Security and Medicare―but it’s a policy document that isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. In 2016, Donald Trump ran for President on a promise not to cut Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid―then immediately upon taking office, they launched a campaign to dismantle Medicare and Medicaid, and launched a regime of bureaucracy to cut off people’s Social Security disability benefits.
Republicans haven’t evolved on Social Security and Medicare any more than they’ve evolved on abortion. They’ve just gotten more comfortable telling bald-faced lies.
