Many of you have been eagerly asking about the status of the recount, and the process for this challenge. We will be filing our recount with the judge this week. Our campaign team has been working diligently, in conjunction with our legal team, over the past three weeks to gather information, investigate concerns, and assemble the post-election documents that are needed for the recount.
Hundreds of individuals have donated to fund the recount, which must be paid by our campaign because the current margin is 0.6%, or just outside the 0.5% that qualifies for a state-funded recount. We must cover the cost of renting facilities, ballot machines, providing security, election officers, and a large legal team that can be on site for multiple areas of counting going on simultaneously. We are so grateful for the support of the people of the 5th District, along with other conservative patriots around the Commonwealth and across the country.
The next step will be for the judge to hear our recount petition and set the recount date. Once the date is determined, all of the documents and ballots must be securely transported to one central counting location in Goochland. All election documents will be transported by members of the local sheriffs’ offices. From there, the count will be set up according to the requirements determined by the judge, and our legal team and volunteer observers will begin the recount process.
We are pursuing this recount in an effort to ensure the results truly and accurately reflect the will of the legal participating voters. This race has state and national implications, and we owe it to the nearly 63,000 voters and the thousands who worked for and contributed to our campaign to do everything possible to ensure they are confident in the final result.
