Oklahoma has long been one of the
most difficult states to petition to get on the ballot, but a law
passed in 2017 introduced an option for presidential candidates to
gain ballot access by paying a $35,000 filing fee.
That’s still a hefty chunk of
change for a grassroots campaign like ours. That said, it actually
costs less than hiring paid petitioners to collect tens of thousands
of signatures - not to mention the likely need to defend those
signatures from legal challenges by the anti-Democratic Party’s army
of lawyers.
Oklahoma is also one of several
states that don’t allow write-in votes, meaning Oklahomans have never
yet had the opportunity to vote for a Green presidential
candidate.
We can make history by putting Jill
on Oklahoma’s ballot - but because the government has delayed the
federal matching funds payments we qualified for and expected to start
arriving this week, we urgently need to raise $35,000 for the Oklahoma
filing fee by the fast-approaching deadline of July 15th.
