The new Government needs to prioritise this
Hi John,
After last week's election we have to build hope in a new Parliament and restore our faith in democracy.
However, 400,000 people were recently turned away from voting because they didn’t have ID. These people were disproportionately low income, elderly, and/or people of colour. This isn't a great start.
The Conservatives introduced voter ID rules to rig elections in their favour. They failed in that, but succeeded in taking away too many people’s right to vote.
Now while the scandal of what we saw on Thursday is fresh in politician's minds we must convince the new Labour government to scrap these laws now.
SIGN THE PETITION
From brave veterans to Suffragettes, people fought and died for our right to vote. So we cannot allow people to be stripped of that right simply by getting their bag nicked or being short of cash.
Polling from before the election showed that voters from BAME backgrounds are 10% more likely to say they don’t know about the voter ID rules.
Labour spoke out against the laws when they were introduced, but they didn’t include a pledge to change them in their manifesto. Let's make sure the Labour Party start their new government right.

Thanks for everything you do,
