Attorney General Todd Rokita files lawsuit as East Chicago ignores immigration laws
Attorney General Todd Rokita today issued the following statement:
"This week, my office filed a lawsuit against East Chicago for its refusal to rescind its illegal ?sanctuary city? policies. We have a new law thanks to the leadership of the General Assembly that authorizes my office to do this against any units of local government. I intend to enforce this law because illegal immigration is unfair to the good people of this state and all the immigrants who worked hard to enter our country legally. As we continue to evaluate Gary and Monroe County, this may not be not the last lawsuit we will file on this issue. Stay tuned."
