Housing: Tenants Bill of Rights

Please join us in supporting new legislation strengthening and standardizing legal protections for immigrant families and millions of other renters nationwide. The Tenants Bill of Rights, was created by our partners at the National Low Income Housing Coalition and the National Housing Law Project, along with the Tenant Union Federation, and informed by our federal advocacy team. The bill includes protections to our work:

  • Bars discrimination based on a renter’s immigration status
  • Strengthens protections against landlord harassment, including inquiries about or disclosure of a renter’s immigration status
  • Authorizes increased funding for language access and other fair housing enforcement priorities
  • Requires landlords to prioritize marketing rental homes to low-income and marginalized tenants

Generating organizational support for these reforms is critical to secure support in Congress. Please consider endorsing the Tenants Bill of Rights today.

Video: Noticias Para Inmigrantes SNAP Video

We recently shared some new resources for food security outreach to immigrant families. Our friends at Noticias Para Inmigrantes used those resources to develop a SNAP outreach Instagram video in Spanish. Please help us spread the word by sharing that post on your own feeds.

Take Action: Urge Lawmakers to Back DACA Health Care Outreach

The offices of Senator Cory Booker and Representative Joaquin Castro are circulating a congressional letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, requesting that they allocate adequate resources for outreach and enrollment assistance to ensure DACA recipients are fully informed about their eligibility for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. You can support this effort by calling your members of Congress and urging them to "sign the Booker/Castro DACA/ACA letter". Note, this letter is for Members of Congress only – not organizations. A strong showing of congressional support is critical to get the Administration’s attention. Please urge your senators and representatives to sign on.
