Community Resilience Estimates Summer Ranking Tables for Hurricane, Wildfire, and Strong Wind Areas
The U.S. Census Bureau today released the 2022 Community Resilience Estimates (CRE) summer ranking tables for areas with at least moderate risk of hurricanes, wildfires and strong winds. This coincides with the start of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, dry conditions, and severe thunderstorms in the United States.
Community resilience is the capacity of individuals and households within a community to absorb the external stresses of a disaster. Using 2022 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year microdata modeled with Population Estimates Program data, the CRE measures the social vulnerability of a community that inhibits community resilience.Â
This release includes an updated data visualization tool and ranking tables that will help users view counties by hazard risk as well as map census tracts by level of social vulnerability to disaster with at least a moderate risk of summertime disasters.
The U.S. Census Bureau today released statistics on businesses with paid employees for the U.S. Virgin Islands from the 2022 Economic Census of Island Areas. Similar data for American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), and Guam were released last month — and estimates for Puerto Rico are set to be released in December.
Estimates for the U.S. Virgin Islands as a whole and for each island are available at the two- through selected five-digit North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) levels for all covered NAICS codes that meet publication standards. These statistics include the number of establishments, total employment, annual payroll and total sales, receipts or revenue. Data on expenses, inventories and a wide variety of other statistics are also available for selected sectors.
Published estimates for the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), and Guam are available in the 2022 Economic Census of Island Areas snapshot series as well as on data.census.gov.
