Dear John,
Sunny days spent outside. Eating ice cream. Swimming.
Those are the things that children should experience during their
summer vacations. But for millions of children, summer is not fun. It
is the hungriest time of year.
That's why we set a goal to raise $1 million, which could help
provide 10,000,000 meals for children who need it. And
John, we can't succeed without your help.

Only 13% of children who receive free or reduced-price meals at school
have access to meals when summer rolls around, but we're working
to close this gap.
Our advocacy efforts have aided Congress in approving a benefits
program for low-income families to buy food and make it easier for
families in rural areas to access meals. We've been working hard
to help states implement and take advantage of these changes, and
we're proud to say that 35 states, five territories and four
tribal nations are on track to provide 21 million children with access
to essential groceries this summer.
We're already seeing the difference these policy changes can
make in communities across the country. One food bank in Virginia
reported going from serving 4,000 meals to children to serving over
54,000 in the same month year over year!
Right now, summer is in full swing, and the fight against summer
childhood hunger is far from over. More organizations need our help to
get the technical support, staff, equipment and vehicles to ensure
this grocery benefit meets the needs of families - and we need
to keep working as hard as we can to close the summer hunger gap and
end childhood hunger for good.
That's why we've set a goal to raise the resources that
could help provide 10 MILLION meals for hungry children this summer
- but we can't reach this ambitious goal without your
help.
