Dear John,
Giant pandas Xin Bao and Yun Chuan are settling into their expansive, multidimensional new homes at the San Diego Zoo. Wildlife care specialists and wildlife health leaders, in close partnership with our Chinese conservation partners, are supporting them around-the-clock as they continue to thrive during their acclimation period.
The pair was welcomed to the San Diego Zoo on June 27, making them the first giant pandas to arrive in the United States in 21 years. This monumental moment in panda conservation wouldn’t be possible without wildlife allies like you, and we look forward to welcoming you to meet them in person later this summer.
In the meantime, stay in touch with us for the latest updates by following us on Instagram or TikTok, browsing our Stories site, and tuning in to Amazing Wildlife, our award‑winning podcast, where San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance conservation ambassadors Marco Wendt and Rick Schwartz chat with Dr. Megan Owen, our vice president of conservation science, who has been part of our collaborative giant panda program from the very beginning. In this feature episode, she shares fascinating insights from the last 30 years of this work and what we’re looking forward to in the next chapter as we care for giant pandas right here in San Diego.
Thank you for being part of our Alliance family, and for joining us as we embark on this new chapter of giant panda conservation.
Together for wildlife,
Erika Kohler Senior Vice President and Executive Director San Diego Zoo
