Protect our progress for innocent animals! Tell Secretary Vilsack to reject the Prop 12 “fix” now! ([link removed])

Friend,

We’re furious. We thought we could count on Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to see through the pork industry’s dangerous schemes, and work with us to stop the Prop 12 “fix” from destroying critical progress for animal protections.

We thought Secretary Vilsack would listen to the vast majority of American voters who desperately want to end animal suffering, and to the farmers who see humane standards of treatment as a prosperous path forward for the agricultural industry. But instead, Vilsack is abandoning voters, ignoring the best interests of more responsible farmers, and striking a huge blow to our democracy in the process. He’s even backpedaling on his own stated objections to similar legislation back in 2014!

We urgently need your help to get Vilsack on the right side of progress NOW, as Congress considers the Farm Bill. So please: Send a message to Secretary Vilsack and urge him to say NO to the Prop 12 “fix” and YES to a more humane Farm Bill. ([link removed])

Vilsack is advocating for cruel, backward and widely unpopular policies to please just a slice of the pork industry overall. He’s publicly advocating for the Big Pork contingent by using their talking points and bolstering their efforts to include the Prop 12 “fix” as part of the must-pass Farm Bill. That could wipe out key elements of our nation’s strongest farm animal welfare law to date, and jeopardize many other crucial laws, putting decades of progress at risk!

Allowing foreign-owned pork industry conglomerates to get their way is a mistake with grave consequences. Lifesaving animal welfare laws could be undone or thrown into chaos and confusion overnight. We can’t afford to let that happen.

Millions of innocent animals are counting on us, friend, and we’re counting on your urgent help to preserve our lifesaving progress before it’s too late. Please: Send a message to Secretary Vilsack now and urge him to oppose the Prop 12 “fix” and any related attack on state and local agricultural laws in the Farm Bill. ([link removed])

Thank you,
