Hi John,
If you’re worried about crime, do you call the police or a government bureaucrat?
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau thinks you need more bureaucrats in Ottawa to keep you safe.
You’ve probably heard of Trudeau’s so-called online harms bill. Many public interest advocacy groups have already warned the bill will “risk creating a serious chilling effect on lawful speech and debate.”
You have every reason to worry this law will make it harder to criticize the government without fear of bureaucrats snooping through what you say online.
And it will cost taxpayers like you hundreds of millions of dollars.
The online harms bill will cost taxpayers $200 million as Trudeau hires 330 online censorship bureaucrats, according to the Parliamentary Budget Officer.
If this was about increasing safety, and not online censorship, why is the government hiring more bureaucrats instead of more police?
For the cost of the online harms bill, the government could instead pay the salary of about 375 new police officers.
This is the latest move from Trudeau to control what you say, read, hear and watch online.
The good news is Trudeau’s online harms bill isn’t law yet. You still have time to push back against Trudeau’s online censorship. But you need to act now. And the first step is to sign the PETITION and show the government you don’t support online censorship.
Will you sign the petition?
Canadians have the right to free speech on social media and online platforms.
That right is vital to hold politicians accountable.
We, the undersigned, call on the federal government to oppose online censorship legislation.
