Republicans release 2024 party platform…and it’s not good for democracy

  • The Republican National Committee (RNC) announced it adopted former President Donald Trump's 2024 election platform, which includes a staunchly anti-voting agenda.


  • The RNC said it strives to “secure elections” by requiring photo IDs and proof of citizenship to vote, promoting the use of paper ballots and targeting same-day voting.


U.S. House will vote on nationwide proof of citizenship bill this week

  • The House is expected to vote this week on a GOP bill that would require proof of citizenship to vote in order to prevent noncitizens from voting in federal elections — something that is already illegal and extraordinarily rare.

Florida law deals blow to voter registration drives

  • Florida's sweeping voter suppression law has effectively ended voter registration drives on college campuses in the state. "It’s extremely sad...But now, [groups are] just too afraid to even talk about how to get registered," one student said.


  • There are three ongoing federal lawsuits challenging various anti-voting provisions of the law.


New York attorney general and DOJ defend voting rights laws

  • New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) stepped into a local redistricting lawsuit to defend the New York Voting Rights Act.


  • The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) intervened in a Georgia absentee voting case to defend the Voting Rights Act.
