Virtual Legislative Townhall Recap: Insights on Community and Legislative Matters
Last week, we had the privilege of hosting a virtual legislative townhall, where a panel of esteemed expert speakers shared their profound insights on various legislative and community issues.
Marco Hernandez from the Minnesota Attorney General's Office discussed the new Minnesota Medical Debt Fairness Act, highlighting its provisions to protect consumers from the financial burden of medical debt. Emmanuel Cruz Martinez from the Department of Labor and Industry explained his Worker's Rights Coordinator role, emphasizing efforts to ensure safe working conditions in meat and poultry processing facilities. Nekey Oliver from the Minnesota Office of Higher Education and Lee Her from the Minnesota Department of Education addressed the critical issues of increasing teacher diversity and addressing staff shortages in K-12 education. Representative Maria-Isa Perez-Vega shared her efforts to tackle flooding in District 65B and improve tenants' rights.

Recapitulación del Ayuntamiento Legislativo Virtual: Perspectivas sobre Asuntos Comunitarios y Legislativos
La semana pasada, tuvimos el privilegio de organizar un ayuntamiento legislativo virtual, donde un panel de expertos distinguidos compartió sus profundos conocimientos sobre varios temas legislativos y comunitarios.
Marco Hernandez de la Oficina del Fiscal General de Minnesota discutió la nueva Ley de Equidad de Deuda Médica de Minnesota, destacando sus disposiciones para proteger a los consumidores de la carga financiera de la deuda médica. Emmanuel Cruz Martínez del Departamento de Trabajo e Industria explicó su papel como Coordinador de Derechos de los Trabajadores, enfatizando los esfuerzos para garantizar condiciones de trabajo seguras en las instalaciones de procesamiento de carne y aves. Bridging the Communication Gap Between Parents & Teens
Familias Fuertes is launching an impactful eight-session workshop series this summer aimed at bridging the communication gap between parents and teenagers in Latino families. Starting on July 16th in St. Paul, these workshops will cover essential topics for fostering strong family relationships. The sessions are designed for teens aged 13-19 and their parents, encouraging participation from families within the seven-county metro area. With transportation assistance available, Familias Fuertes ensures accessibility for all interested families.
This initiative promises to equip Latino families with vital communication skills, strengthening their bonds and fostering a supportive community.

Celebrate Culture and Nature at the Latino Nature Fest!
The Latino Nature Fest, taking place on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 1-5 PM at the Bloomington Education and Visitor Center, promises a vibrant celebration of Latino culture and nature. This FREE event, organized by Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, the City of Bloomington, Indigenous Roots, and Huellas Latinas, features music from DJ’s queenDuin, Talia Knight, and Alma Andina, as well as delicious food trucks and engaging activities such as face-painting, screen-printing, and guided bird walks. Attendees can explore wildlife presentations by Richardson Nature Center and the Minnesota Zoo, enjoy cultural performances, paint alebrijes, and try archery. The first 250 visitors receive free meal tickets, making it a perfect day for the whole family to enjoy fun, community, and the great outdoors.
