John – What do tobacco-related diseases, motor vehicle crashes, and firearm violence have in common? They’ve all been declared public health crises in America.
That’s right, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy officially declared the gun violence epidemic a public health crisis.
It couldn’t be more clear: Teachers, students, parents, and even medical professionals are terrified to live in a country where firearms stand between all of us and our futures.
Dr. Murthy’s declaration also sheds light on something that most people don’t know: While educators like me are trying to teach long division and reading comprehension, we’re also leading violence‑intervention initiatives and fostering classroom connections for healing.
John, declaring gun violence a public health crisis is a critical step in our path to progress, but it’s just one step. Continuing to push forward on this progress is going to take all of us.
So I have to ask: Will you rush a donation right now to help Teachers Unify keep up the fight for real, tangible change (like this declaration!) to keep our kids, our schools, and communities safer? >>
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
