Dear Friend,
Marcella Burke (Marshall Fellow, 2014) began her storied career in much the same way as many of America’s top legal minds, entering a top-100 corporate law firm, and quickly making equity-partner.
Later, when the Trump White House came calling, she served in the Environmental Protection Agency as Deputy General Counsel, and in the Department of Interior as Deputy Solicitor for Energy and Natural Resources.
Soon after, the Burke Law Group was formed, where another Claremont Fellow, Ilya Shapiro (Lincoln, 2015), was brought on as Counsel. The Houston-based full-service law firm, we are happy to report, has become rather successful. Burke Law has built a reputation not only for litigation and appeals, but also mergers & acquisitions and real estate law.
So, when Marcella learned that Texas Children’s Hospital supported transgender medicine, she could have easily, like many of us, registered her disgust and then continued with the days’ work. After all, hospital CEO Mark Wallace had assured the public that the child gender clinic was shutting down. Nothing more to see.
But that, it seems, was a lie.
Doctors continued performing the inhumane surgeries on the young and would have continued were it not for a fearless surgeon, Eithan Haim, who blew the whistle on the operation. (You can read more about the case from another Claremont Fellow, Chris Rufo [Lincoln, 2017], HERE.)
As Rufo reports, last month federal agents paid a visit to Dr. Haim. It was the same morning of his residency graduation. Then came the federal marshals. And an indictment on four felony counts for violating HIPPA.
Marcella Burke has decided to represent Dr. Haim, a decision for which we should all be grateful. She does this, of course, with some professional risk of her own.
We commend Marcella and could not be prouder. This is what is means to be a Claremont Fellow in the fullest sense. Taking a stand for liberty, justice, and the American Way of Life.
So please, if you can, consider supporting Dr. Haim in his brave fight by donating HERE.
We look forward to updating you in this space when Marcella and Eithan emerge victorious.
Thank you,
