John,
I want to tell you why I’m inspired by Josh Turek, an Iowa State Representative and two-time gold medal winner for the United States Paralympic basketball team.
But first, I need your help. Josh is under attack from far-right Republicans. They know he’s a rising star and will do anything it takes to cut his public service journey short. We can’t let them do it.
Josh is a ballot-lifting candidate. He will boost every Democrat on Election Day, from President Biden to Statehouse and Courthouse candidates.
Can you rush a contribution to Josh’s campaign right now? Now, let me tell you why I’m inspired by Josh.
Josh Turek is a fighter. He was born with spina bifida and endured 21 surgeries by the age of 12. Josh fought through medical and economic challenges. He understands the need for affordable health care firsthand. Josh grew up in a working family that fought to make ends meet. He went on to win two gold medals with the United States Paralympic basketball team. Now, he represents his community in the Iowa House of Representatives.

Josh is the first permanently and visibly disabled legislator in Iowa history. Carrying on the legacy of U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, he gives voice to people with disabilities, 15 percent of the nation's population, and the single-largest underrepresented demographic in the United States. I rely on his advice to ensure that legislation and policies are fully inclusive. We need more Josh Tureks in the rooms where democracy happens.

In 2022, Josh won his race by six votes. He knows what it takes to win, but he needs our help. Can you rush a donation today to show Josh's widespread national support?
The hilly reaches of Council Bluffs make it a challenging city to campaign door to door. In the 2022 race, Turek pushed and climbed and “crawled” — the latter his own description — to 14,000 doors!
“Not every individual with a disability can do so,” Turek said. “I just crawled stairs, crawled with my wheelchair up there, and won by six votes.”
In the Iowa House, Josh Turek has been a voice for working people and an advocate for the economic revival that's at the center of my work. He's an important ally. |
He supports women's right to make their own healthcare decisions and fights for public education and rights and opportunities for people with disabilities. He's there daily for teachers, healthcare workers, and our aging population. Because of his personal experiences, Josh sees struggles and opportunities that others miss. He's a rare and essential leader. Josh Turek has a gold-medal resume and character. I'm expecting big things from him in the future. But first, we must ensure he keeps his job in the State House. |
Thank you for your activism and your support. In solidarity,
