MY REQUEST FOR RELIEF WAS JUST APPROVED FOR BUENA VISTA, CHEROKEE, AND WOODBURY COUNTIES This morning, I received a call from the Department of Homeland Security that a major disaster declaration — which I requested alongside Governor Reynolds — was approved for Buena Vista, Cherokee, and Woodbury counties. Families, farmers, and businesses impacted by severe flooding will now have access to the disaster relief, resources, and assistance that they need to recover and rebuild. I will continue to press the administration to deliver more aid to more communities affected by these devastating floods. HELPING WITH CLEANUP IN HAWARDEN On Wednesday morning, I enjoyed serving breakfast to families impacted by devastating flooding and volunteers helping with cleanup in Hawarden. After serving breakfast, I helped with cleanup and met Allen — who just got home from a military deployment in March — and his wonderful family whose home suffered serious damage. Iowans are resilient, and we’re going to get through these tough times together. SURVEYING THE DAMAGE AT TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH IN HAWARDEN While in Hawarden, I met Pastor Lowe and his wife Corinne. Their home and Trinity Lutheran Church were devastated by flooding. With our faith in God, we will overcome these challenges. HELPING WITH CLEANUP IN ROCK VALLEY After my time in Hawarden, I went up to Rock Valley to help with home repairs and cleanup. Together, we’ll rebuild and come back stronger than before. HELPING DELIVER FOOD TO THOSE IN NEED On Tuesday morning, I helped distribute food to families impacted by flooding in Siouxland and Northwest Iowa. It’s going to take all of us to get back on our feet and help our neighbors. I remain committed to delivering relief to every community affected by the storms. MY STATEMENT ON THE U.S. SUPREME COURT RULING OVERTURNING THE CHEVRON DOCTRINE AND REDUCING THE POWER OF UNELECTED BUREAUCRATS I applaud the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Chevron doctrine and return power back to lawmakers elected and held accountable by the American people. From WOTUS regulations to electric-vehicle mandates, unelected bureaucrats have imposed their will and overstepped their authority for far too long. This decision restores balance to our system of government and prioritizes local control over federal overreach. I will continue to do my part to hold the Biden administration accountable to our families, farmers, and businesses. GOOGLE ANNOUNCES AN OVER $1-BILLION INVESTMENT IN ITS COUNCIL BLUFFS DATA CENTER CAMPUS I kept my 36 County Tour going on Tuesday in Pottawattamie County where Google announced a more than $1 billion investment in its data center campus in Council Bluffs. This decision will create jobs, grow our economy, and keep Iowa a leader in digital technology and infrastructure. OPPOSING PRESIDENT BIDEN'S EV MANDATE ON TRUCKS, TRACTORS, BUSES, AND SEMIS This week, Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho and I led over 150 of our colleagues demanding that the Biden administration end its de facto EV mandate on trucks, tractors, buses, and semis. This is just another attack on liquid fuels that are vital to our energy security. Biden's Climate Crackdown on Heavy-Duty Trucks Will... A coalition of more than 150 House and Senate Republicans are calling on the Biden administration to withdraw a slate of environmental regulations targeting heavy-duty trucks, the Washington Free Beacon has learned. MY WEEKLY COLUMN: HELPING SMALL BUSINESSES OFFER PAID FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE TO THEIR EMPLOYEES When a family welcomes a newborn into the world or a medical condition leaves someone unable to work, it’s important that employees of businesses both large and small have access to paid family and medical leave. Paid family and medical leave – known as PFML for short – ensures that workers can take needed paid time off to spend with their families when a new baby arrives or, in the event of a medical emergency, allows employees to take the time that they need to heal and recover without missing a paycheck. But, right now, there is still uncertainty for both businesses and their employees because a tax credit – created through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act – to help employers offer PFML expires next year. That’s why I introduced the Paid Family and Medical Leave Tax Credit Extension and Enhancement Act to help small businesses offer PFML to their employees. Read more in my weekly column below.
