Summer EBT is Here

For the first time ever, many states throughout the country are participating in the brand new Summer EBT program, which will provide eligible families with $40 per month per child – a total of $120 per child for the summer – on an EBT food benefit card. These benefits, combined with other federal nutrition programs, will help ensure children’s access to healthy food while school is out.

Hunger Free America is proud to have partnered with Albertsons Companies and other anti-hunger groups to launch
SummerEBT.org, which provides information about how to apply for the Summer EBT program in all pariticpating states and territories.

At HFA, we’re working hard to ensure that all eligible families know about this new program and are able to access these crucial benefits.

Volunteer: 9/11 Serve-A-Thon

Save the date! Based on our MLK Serve-a-thon, which we've been hosting for 20+ years, we invite you to participate in our new 9/11 Serve-a-thon- with in-person and virtual opportunities across the country, including educational events. 9/11 is a federally designated day of service in honor of those lost on 9/11, and those who responded. Join us for events Sept 11-15 - more events to be added soon!

Hunger Hotline Report

Last month, the Hunger Hotline, which HFA runs on behalf of USDA, received 4,608 calls! Nearly two-thirds of those callers had questions about the new Summer EBT program. Other callers received information about Summer Meals, SNAP, and local food pantries.

Advocacy Corner: Fight for SNAP

In May, the House Agriculture Committee advanced a Farm Bill proposal that would, according to the Congressional Budget Office, take away $30 billion in SNAP funding. Hunger Free America fiercely opposes this proposal, which would take away life-saving nutrition assistance from tens of millions of food insecure children, working people, veterans, people with disabilities, and older Americans.

We urge you to contact your House Representative and US Senator and implore them to reject any Farm Bill that cuts SNAP funding!
