** Army Corp of Engineers to Prepare the Convention Center to Serve Patients, if Necessary

In coordination with the Bowser Administration, the US Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, has issued a design/build contract to Hensel Phelps Construction Co., to convert the Walter E. Washington Convention Center into an alternate care facility to support the District’s response to coronavirus ([link removed][UNIQID]) (COVID-19). The goal is to never need to use the Convention Center, but by the first week of May, 500 beds will be ready.
The District announced the following emergency no parking restrictions in the area surrounding the Convention Center effective Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at 12:01 am.
* 1100 Block 9th Street NW (Mt. Vernon Pl to L St NW): East curb lane
* 1100 Block 9th Street NW (L St to M St NW): East curb lane
* 1100 Block 7th Street NW (Mt. Vernon Pl to L St NW): West curb lane
* 1100 Block 7th Street NW (L St to M St NW): West curb lane
* 700 Block L Street NW (7th St to 9th St NW): North and South curb lanes
Signs have been posted by the District Department of Transportation and restrictions will be enforced by the Department of Public Works.
** Sidewalk Extension Plan to Support Social Distancing Near Essential Businesses

Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily extend sidewalks near grocery stores and other essential retailers to allow pedestrians enough space to practice social distancing ([link removed][UNIQID]) during the coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency. Sidewalk extensions will be located in all eight wards of the District, based upon DDOT’s evaluation and suggestions from the public.
DC Health and federal guidelines define social distancing as individuals keeping at least six feet apart from each other as much as possible.
DDOT is currently evaluating sites and will also consider locations submitted by Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners (ANC) and Business Improvement District (BID) representatives. Residents should submit their requests to their respective ANC or BID. In turn, the ANC or BID will send suggestions to

Mayor Bowser provides daily briefings nearly every weekday at 11:00 am. The briefings provide the latest, detailed information on the District's response to coronavirus and can be viewed on cable channel 16, the DC Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment website ([link removed][UNIQID]) , or on the Mayor's social media channels.
In today's update, the Mayor provided details of coronavirus at the Department of Corrections (DOC) and Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS), as well as the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and Fire and Emergency Medical Service (FEMS). Additionally, there are now 10 sites where District residents can get a free test with a doctor's referral.
** Domestic Violence Resources

* Victims can still file for temporary protection orders with the DC Courts.
* Victims in need of help should contact the DC Victim Hotline (1-844-4HELPDC), by phone or text 24/7.
+ Services include crisis housing, counseling, legal advocacy, and medical forensic care.
* Victims who are afraid or unable to talk to a 911 operator can text 911.
