Dear John,
It’s hard to believe, but here we are, four years after the 2020 election, and Louis DeJoy is still Postmaster General, despite all his destructive plans.
Who could forget the election of 2020, when GOP mega-donor DeJoy gave Trump and the RNC $430,000, then proceeded to decommission thousands of mail pickup sites just in time to threaten vote-at-home ballots?
Yet despite this interference with voter access, and despite Trump’s loss in the election, Louis DeJoy is still here, slowing the delivery of mail, increasing postal rates, firing thousands of employees, all to privatize and destroy the U.S. Post Office.
Here’s the deal: Only the USPS Board of Governors can fire DeJoy.
Obviously, they have not. Recently, however, a bipartisan group of 26 senators -- including 13 Republicans -- stood up to demand that DeJoy stop plans to endanger vote-by-mail ballots in the fall. These plans included the consolidation of sorting centers, redirection of mail processing, and slowing down the mail.
When 440,327 direct messages were sent to the USPS Board by the Save the Post Office Coalition, DeJoy finally responded, announcing he would pause these plans -- but only until 2025, when he will return to raising prices and shrinking services. Still, this success has reunited momentum in the campaign to fire Dejoy.
The partnership with Congress to pressure the USPS Board was critical to our success. So now is the time to call for that support once again. Send a letter to urge your members of Congress to demand the USPS Board of Governors fire Louis DeJoy now!
The timely delivery of mail is crucial for those who depend on it for medications, consumer goods, lab results, Social Security, and paychecks. We can’t afford to wait months for crucial mail to arrive.
DeJoy has cut over 30 million hours of staffing, and reduced the wages of two-thirds of rural mail carriers. Increasing the price for delivering local newspapers by 33% may put many of these papers out of business.
We need a new Postmaster General at USPS, committed to preserving the Post Office as a public service.
To accomplish this, we need Congress to join us in putting public pressure on the USPS Board to remove DeJoy and expand services now! Please sign and send your messages now.
Thank you for working to revitalize the Post Office as a public service.
