ICYMI: Last week, the House GOP passed their newest round of spending bills that threaten our environment progress and echo their tactics from this year’s disaster when Republicans waited until the last second to pass a bill to avoid a government shutdown.
Their new spending bills spell complete disaster for our environment if the GOP takes control of Congress and passes them along party lines.
Here’s what included in the GOP’s first round of spending bills:
Department of State Appropriation Bills:
Cuts to vital international initiatives, including the United Nations’ regular budget, the Green Climate Fund, and the Clean Technology Fund.
Removal of the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.
Prohibits the Treasury Department from supporting the Biden administration’s “climate agenda” at multilateral development banks.
Department of Defense Funding Bill:
Restricts a proposed rule requiring government contractors to disclose greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related financial risks.
Repeals a 2021 executive order that helps reduce methane emissions, enact stricter vehicle fuel economy standards, and create stricter appliance and building efficiency standards.
Undos an order to submit reports on climate change’s impact on migration.
As the GOP House majority prepares to pass these terrible non-starter spending bills, it’s clear the implications for our environment would be disastrous if they take back the House. Your support is essential to oppose these measures.
