Dear Neighbor,
I hope that you are enjoying a safe and relaxing 4th of July weekend celebrating our nation’s independence with those you love. I continue to be mindful of the fact that we are privileged to live in the land of the free because of the sacrifices made by the brave. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to those who are deployed around the globe and are spending this holiday weekend away from their loved ones. We honor and appreciate their service! Please continue reading for a brief recap of my work on your behalf last week.
Making Washington Work for You: I was humbled and proud to see the Dr. Emmanuel Bilirakis and Honorable Jennifer Wexton National Plan to End Parkinson’s Act signed into law last week. It was a special moment to celebrate with my sister-in-law, Maria Bilirakis and my nieces, Evelyn and Stella. More than being a beautiful tribute to my brother who dedicated his life to helping others, this landmark legislation gives hope to millions of Americans who are struggling with this debilitating disease. Through increased collaboration and partnership, we can and will find a cure!
My colleagues and I are also working to improve screening for Alzheimer’s Disease. As research continues to yield advancement in the development of more treatment options for patients with this debilitating disease, we know that early detection, diagnosis and intervention offers the best promise for disease management. My colleagues and I are advancing legislation to help improve early diagnosis. We owe it to our fellow Americans to develop a system of care that prioritizes education, screening and assessment so that patients can enjoy the best possible quality of life. Restoring American Energy Dominance: President Biden’s energy policy has been nothing short of disastrous. It prioritized the whims of the most liberal fringe of his party over economic growth and energy stability -- to the detriment of American consumers and to the advantage of our foreign adversaries. One of the most egregious elements of his policy is the Biden natural gas export ban. Hopefully the federal court’s recent ruling against the President’s policies sends a strong message that we need to restore American energy independence. Also, my colleagues and I are pushing back against another element of his damaging energy policies by demanding that the Biden Administration ends its de facto EV mandate on trucks, tractors, buses and semis. This is just another attack on liquid fuels that are vital to our nation’s energy security. Click here to read more about our efforts.
Celebrating Success: Each year, the Congressional Management Foundation, a non-partisan independent group that monitors the House and Senate, issues four awards (one Republican and one Democrat for each award) for outstanding achievement. Last week, I was honored to be named as the winner in two separate categories for constituent service, communication and accessibility. These are the cornerstones of effective representation! Community Connection
I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties, members of my team attended several events last week. Here are a few highlights.
My team enjoyed learning about the needs of local small businesses at this month's Hernando Chamber of Commerce.
In Pasco County, my team celebrated local small businesses being honored for outstanding achievement at the Greater Pasco Chamber of Commerce annual banquet.
Additionally, my team helped distribute food to those in need at this month's People Helping People event.
Constituent Corner
My team recently received this note after helping a constituent with a Social Security issue
This is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office. The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. We are here to serve you! |
