Hi John, do you have a minute?
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have long been a fixture of the American higher education system. HBCUs were founded on the belief that every individual deserves access to a college or higher education.
However, chronic underfunding is putting higher education as a whole at risk, and Black communities, students, and schools are being disproportionately impacted. These essential institutions deserve more funding and prioritization, but some lawmakers are determined to shut them down.
A Mississippi state senator recently introduced legislation that would put three of the state’s HBCUs at risk of closure and jeopardize the educational opportunities of Black students in Mississippi. This is the kind of legislation we must take a stand against.
It’s important that we protect HBCUs — higher education should be accessible to all students, and all students deserve the funding and resources they need to thrive.
Sign the petition today to demand our lawmakers protect HBCUs! >>
Thanks for signing,
