This week, conservative justices on the Supreme Court awarded Donald Trump virtually unlimited immunity for his actions on Jan. 6, when he encouraged a violent mob to storm the Capitol in an attempt to overthrow the results of a free and fair election.

Their reasoning? Trump was acting in his “official capacity” as president, which they’ve decided gives him the ability to do essentially whatever he wants even if it means tearing apart our democracy in the process.

We all saw -- with our own eyes -- what took place on that dark day. Trump stood by and did nothing, and brave police officers died. As a country, we cannot stand to relive that.

But if Trump is elected for another four years, it is entirely possible that we will.
