PFLAG Connects

Dear John:

We’ve got brand-new ways to stay connected this week, including another edition of Something to Talk About LIVE. Did you miss our past broadcasts? You can watch them now on Facebook or YouTube.

Taking care of me.

Reminder: Self-Care Matters

The current pandemic has forced people to radically change the way that they live, work, and socialize. For those who are advocates for equality, it’s also changed the way people work towards achieving equality and inclusion for all. This week, focus on an important element that’s too often lost in the shuffle of our busy (and unusual) days: Self-care. Our colleagues at the Mayo Clinic have some great suggestions for basic self-care during the epidemic, while M-Pact Social Action has a fantastic video focusing on self-care for activists.

Three Steps to Being...A Better Ally in Your Faith Community

Just because you’re staying in doesn’t mean the need for allyship in your faith community has slowed down. So stay safe and take these steps to engage.

  1. Learn: Check out PFLAG National’s publications Faith In Our Families and be not afraid - help is on the way! straight for equality in faith communities to help you learn more about what you can do to be a better ally to individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ in your faith community.
  2. Watch: There are countless amazing films that focus on the intersections of faith and religion and LGBTQ+ identities. We recommend checking out a classic such as Prayers for Bobby or a documentary like For They Know Not What They Do.
  3. Share: Use social media to spread the word about organizations that represent your faith tradition that are also welcoming, open, and affirming for those who identify as LGBTQ+. Use the list available at straightforequality.org/FaithResources to get started.

#SavethePostOffice

PFLAG families, like all families, rely on the U.S. Postal Service and its workforce to keep us connected. Every day, post offices across the country process and deliver letters, food, prescriptions and other supplies. Plus, postal carriers are the designated “last-mile carriers” for private companies, delivering most of the online orders and packages to doorsteps and mailboxes in most of the country. In fact, nearly half of all the mail in all the world is processed by the U.S. Postal Service.

Send your email--or tweet it out--to the president, and tell him to Save the Post Office! Quickly add your name to PFLAG's prepared message; add your own story if you wish and email the President to save the Postal Service, including POs, postal workers and families' ability to receive needed mail.
