Next Saturday, the 13th July, the biggest labour movement festival in Europe will be taking place in Durham. The 'Big Meeting' is a celebration of community and trade union values. 100,000 people will fill the streets, with brass bands and banners, slowly winding down to the big field, to listen to the speeches. There's always a very special atmosphere around the weekend and we encourage you to come to Durham if you can.
As usual, the People's Assembly will be there, with our own banner on the march and a stall on the field. It is a great chance to talk to people about our anti-austerity agenda and building local groups around the country. Will you join us? Can you help out on the stall? If so, please email us at office@the peoplesassembly.org.uk and we'll help you connect with the People's Assembly bloc on the day? See you in Durham!
Even though the General Election has been and gone, it is worth watching our online election roundtable with Lindsey German, Paula Peters, Emma Rose and Martin Cavanagh - a really lively and important discussion also looking ahead to life under Labour.
Councils going bankrupt; huge housing crisis; privatisation & marketisation wrecking the NHS, public services, transport & education - and the energy companies are ripping us off. We’re building again, because we have to.
"This Charter restates the case for humanity, equality, justice and peace. I hope it can play a unifying role, in bringing people together who believe we can do better than the pernicious, degrading and damaging politics of the moment."
