Do 43,000 millionaires really need a $1.6 million average tax break right now? Tell Congress to put aid where the need is greatest!

John,

In the last round of COVID-19 response legislation, Senate Republicans demanded and got $170 billion in tax breaks for hedge funds, private equity firms, law firms and real estate owners (possibly including the Trump Organization).

Together with our champions in Congress, Americans for Tax Fairness is leading the fight demanding that these outrageous tax breaks be repealed in the next COVID-19 emergency funding bill.

Instead of giving an average $1.6 million tax break to 43,000 of the richest Americans, we must put aid toward increased direct payments to working families, safety net programs like nutrition assistance and Medicaid, aid to prevent evictions or foreclosures, and other critical protections for working families and frontline healthcare workers.

Write to your members of Congress right now and demand they repeal $170 billion in tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.

Together, we’re demanding a Fair Share Taxes system that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.

Thank you,

Frank Clemente

John,

Millionaires and billionaires are making out like bandits during the pandemic, thanks to Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell.

New research from the Joint Committee on Taxation shows that the most-recent round of COVID-19 legislation hands $170 BILLION in tax breaks to business owners. And 82% of that is going to people making more than $1 million annually―43,000 of the wealthiest Americans. Their average tax break will be $1.6 million this year alone!

Our champions in Congress are fighting back! Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) are leading an effort to repeal this outrageous tax break for the rich business owners. This is a major priority if we want to create a Fair Share Tax system that works for ordinary people, not just the wealthy few.

Write to your members of Congress today to repeal the $170 billion tax break for wealthy business owners that was included in the most recent round of COVID-19 legislation. We must instead direct those essential dollars to those who need it most.

This $170 billion in tax breaks are five times more than the $42 billion being spent on safety net programs such as SNAP food benefits and housing assistance. It’s far more than the $100 billion in aid to hospitals and more than the $150 billion spent on direct aid to state and local governments at the frontline of this crisis.

Join Americans for Tax Fairness in demanding Congress repeal these tax breaks for the rich and instead spend those critical resources where the need is greatest.

At a time when over 22 million Americans have filed for unemployment, we shouldn’t be handing 43,000 millionaires and billionaires an average $1.6 million tax break this year alone.

Thank you for fighting back against tax and economic policies that benefit the rich while average Americans struggle to pay their bills and put food on the table.
