Dirty Dozen List Progress with Cash App!

After YOU joined us in calling out Cash App through the Dirty Dozen List, the company is now hiring an Anti-Human Exploitation and Financial Crimes Program Manager!

We are hopeful this will be a first step toward other improvements on the platform, as the new role involves “leading, designing and implementing a program focused on combating human exploitation on the Cash App platform with a focus on preventing the sale of child sex abuse material (CSAM) and payments which involve human trafficking,” including “implementing tools to enhance detection capabilities.”

Cash App began seeking to fill this role in June, just a couple of months after you joined us in asking them to implement proactive CSAM, grooming, and trafficking detection and moderation features, among other recommendations.

We will continue to watch Cash App closely to ensure this first step is followed up by meaningful safety improvements.

THANK YOU for your voice, which made this happen!

The TAKE IT DOWN Act: A Lifeline for Survivors and An Act for Freedom

A woman was sex trafficked by her husband. He posted videos of the abuse online.

Despite sending Google a legal request, with proof that her husband was in prison for sex trafficking her, Google refused to remove the abuse videos. They claimed their lack of action was due to seeing “no signs of coercion.”

Fortunately, since NCOSE arranged for Google to meet with survivors, the company has made it significantly easier for survivors to get their images removed. We thank Google for this.

But how could this appalling situation have ever happened to begin with? And how many other survivors are left in their misery due to other tech companies’ callous inaction?

The TAKE IT DOWN Act has been introduced to resolve these problems!

VICTORY! North Carolina Makes Sex Buying a Felony on First Offence

The North Carolina state legislature passed H 971, “Hotel Operation and Personnel Education Act,” which makes sex buying a felony on the first offence, effective December 1, 2024.

This is enormous progress. Deterring sex buyers is the only way to truly end prostitution and sex trafficking. No Buyers=No Business!

The Act also requires hotel personnel to complete mandatory training for recognizing the signs of human trafficking.

This victory is a result of the tireless work of North Carolina allies, including NC Stop Human Trafficking. We are grateful for their powerful voices which they dedicate to defending human dignity.
