Dear John

We're ready to work with Keir Starmer and the new Labour government to deliver a thriving and beautiful countryside for everyone.

In its manifesto, Labour committed to doing things we have long campaigned for, including protecting the Green Belt, creating a land use framework, and making homes more affordable.

As we enter a new political era, we will be working to make sure the issues that affect our countryside are kept firmly on the agenda. Scroll down to find out more.

We're also delighted to welcome broadcaster and author Mary-Ann Ochota as our new president. Mary-Ann is a passionate advocate for our countryside and natural world. You can read more about the news below.

Finally, last month the Supreme Court made a monumental ruling on oil drilling in Surrey. Keep scrolling to find out more.

CPRE welcomes the new Labour government

We'll always stand up for the countryside and advocate for common-sense solutions, and we urge the new government to show that it recognises both the value of our countryside, and its potential.

Post-election: the key countryside issues

The new Labour government is faced with the monumental challenge of tackling several crises affecting our countryside and planet. From delivering genuinely affordable housing and common-sense rooftop solar, to enhancing our Green Belt, we call on the new government to recognise the true value of our countryside and the people who live there.

Mary-Ann Ochota named new CPRE president

We're delighted to confirm that Mary-Ann Ochota has been named as CPRE's new president. Mary-Ann is a broadcaster, author and anthropologist whose passionate expertise has engaged people worldwide with landscapes, heritage and the natural world. With a deep knowledge of the countryside, rural communities, and storytelling, we are excited to work with Mary-Ann at such a critical time for our countryside.

Supreme Court ruling on oil drilling 'major win' for our countryside

We celebrated a major win for the countryside when the Supreme Court ruled that the full climate impact of the proposed oil development at Horse Hill in Surrey should be considered. We hope this will signal a major shift away from fossil fuel extraction in our countryside and towards clean, sustainable energy.
