Olympic View Transfer Station temporarily restricts facility access due to equipment outage
Due to an unplanned outage of the garbage compactor at Olympic View Transfer Station, Kitsap County Public Works has decided to temporarily restrict access to the facility. The goal is to slow the amount of garbage entering the system until the compactor is repaired.

Current facility restrictions
More facility restrictions, including temporary closures, may be announced over the weekend as the situation changes.
-
No trailers will be allowed at Olympic View Transfer Station until further notice. This includes utility trailers, dump trailers, U-Haul trailers, etc. There's no room on the floor for these vehicles. Emergencies will be accommodated.

Public asked to postpone dump runs
We urge the public to postpone dump runs to Olympic View Transfer Station and the Recycling and Garbage Facilities until further notice. Garbage collected at the smaller Recycling and Garbage Facilities is transported to Olympic View Transfer Station, which is operating near capacity.
These facilities currently remain open, but customers to Olympic View Transfer Station can expect long wait times. Recycling and Garbage Facility customers may be turned away when capacity is reached.
The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is not affected by this outage.

Recovery plan
Repairs to the compactor were originally expected to take place on Monday, July 8, but necessary parts have been difficult to acquire.
Waste Management, the contracted operator of Olympic View Transfer Station, is currently top-loading garbage into containers, which is much less efficient than compacting.
