Since 1790, the Census has been the cornerstone of our democracy. It shapes representation in the House, the Electoral College, and every level of government.
Today, Congress is debating the Fiscal Year 2025 budget, and the House wants to slash Census funding to a mere $1.3 billion — far below what’s needed. This drastic cut endangers the accuracy of the count, especially among low-income families, Black and Brown communities, and young children.
Funding for Medicaid, public education, housing, nutrition programs, and a whole lot more are up on the chopping block. With the 2030 Census poised to introduce broader identification options for Middle Eastern, North African, and Hispanic residents, the stakes couldn't be higher to secure full funding and ensure accuracy.
