Jack, since the pandemic, American consumers have faced relentless price hikes on essential goods and services. While Republicans and corporations attempt to gaslight the public by blaming the pandemic and global supply chain disruptions, a deeper look reveals a more troubling culprit: corporate greed. Major corporations have exploited these crises, driving inflation through price gouging and padding their profits at the expense of everyday families.

The percentage of corporate profits accounting for inflation rose from 11% before the pandemic to 53% in 2023. Across various sectors, corporations have quickly passed on increasing costs to consumers but are slow to lower prices when costs drop. A survey from the Richmond Fed and Duke University found that 60% of companies plan to hike prices this year more than they did pre-pandemic despite supply chain issues stabilizing and production costs decreasing.

These actions reflect a pattern of exploitation that exacerbates inequality and strains household budgets. While CEOs and shareholders reap record profits, workers and consumers bear the brunt of inflated prices. The consequences are severe: increased living costs, diminished savings, and a growing divide between the wealthy and the working class.

We cannot allow corporations to continue this unchecked profiteering. It’s time for policymakers to intervene and hold these companies accountable. We must demand an end to corporate greed and ensure fair pricing for all.
