John, it’s Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro here with an important message about this week’s Supreme Court ruling.

No one should be above the law in this country.

But on Monday, the Supreme Court of the United States — packed with Donald Trump’s hand picked justices — deeply undermined that fundamental tenet of our democracy. They changed the very core principle that this nation was founded on, and decided that at least one person is above the law. This has ushered us into a dangerous new era – one that all Americans should be concerned about.

I have grave concerns with this ruling, and not just because of what it means for Donald Trump – who now is legally above the law in many cases. But I also worry about the fact that we no longer have that same underpinning of equality that our founding fathers worked so hard to develop.

The 2024 election isn’t about Democrats vs. Republicans or Red vs. Blue. 2024 is about the American people – and the kind of country that we want to build for ourselves. This year, voters are facing a stark contrast: either we elect decent, committed, honorable leaders throughout our government who will fight for hard-working families; or we elect extremists who desperately want to drag our nation backwards.

I know which one I’m picking. I want to build a country where Americans’ real freedom is expanded – not contracted. I want to build a country where everyone has the opportunity to get ahead and thrive no matter what you look like, where you come from, who you love, or who you do or don’t pray to. I want to build a country where people’s most fundamental rights – like voting rights and reproductive rights – are always protected. And I want to build a country where no one is above the law.

We have to elect Democratic governors in November in key states with neck-and-neck races, like North Carolina and New Hampshire.

That’s why, team, it has never been more crucial that this November we vote for democracy, we vote for the rule of law and we vote for freedom – and we do so by electing leaders like President Biden and Democratic governors. But to make that happen we need your help.
